I am going to be the Leader for this year's Daisy Troop (Kindergarten age girls).  I am offering the opportunity to any of our Junior Girl Scouts to earn their Leadership Award by being a helper at some of the Daisy meetings.  In order to earn this award, they would need to read the section in the Junior Handbook on leadership (pgs 24 & 25) and write a short paragraph on what leadership qualities they would like to develop.  Then they would need to attend at least 6 meetings and also take a leadership role in one of the girl's activities for at least 4 of those meetings.  This would include explaining the steps to the girls, showing them an example, and assisting them as they complete the activity.  The final step would be to write another short paragraph explaining what they learned as a leader and if this experience helped them gain the qualities they wanted to develop from Step 1.  This is an optional activity and up to each individual Junior girl.  The Daisy meetings will be held every Friday at the Community Center from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  If your daughter is interested, please contact me so we can schedule which meetings she will attend.

THANK YOU! to Sue Hannan for agreeing to be the Brownie Cookie Manager and to  Rhonda Lamphere (my cousin) for agreeing to be our Junior Cookie Manager this year!

REMINDER--Ongoing Supplies Drive for Matthew Newnan

We are doing a supplies drive for the little brother of 2 of our members, Samantha & Jessica Newnan.  Matthew, who is 6 years old, was born with a genetic defect to his intestines.  At the age of 9 months he had to have an intestine, liver and pancreas transplant.   He has spent 9 to 10 months out of every year of his life in the hospital.  Due to his transplants, he is prone to infections.  This problem can be life-threatening because he is nourished through a central line.  He has had several central lines and they are running out of new places to put them every time the current one gets infected.  Their parents, Scott and Erin have been working day and night to care for Matthew and the girls.  They are absolutely fantastic people and I was hoping that as a large extended family, our 2 troops could pull together to help them in some small way.

We are collecting the everyday items that they need specific to Matthew's medical care and infection control:

•Paper towels - Bounty or any brand     •Antibacterial soap - Bath & Body Works
•Bottled water - gallons and bottles     •Clorox Disinfecting wipes (or Lysol)
•Bleach (any kind)       •Purrell or other waterless hand sanitizers
•Johnson & Johnson softwash cleansing cloths (for sponge baths)
•CVS brand SleepPants, size Medium - (only brand he doesn't react to)
•3M Nexcare band aids for his glucose testing- Active Brights or paper (Pooh and Mickey) - both LATEX FREE
•Batteries - size D and AAA (for some of the equipment we must use for him)
•Arm & Hammer scent and dye free laundry detergent (only one he doesn't react to)

Please be sure to get the specific items listed.  Matthew is very sensitive and it has taken them lots of trial and error to find the items he does not react to.

This is an ongoing drive, please bring your donations to the Girl Scout meetings on Mondays and we will get them to the Newnans.  Please see Nancy if you have any questions.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
