Planning ahead for the Future – Leadership teams
Nancy shared an idea from a recent SUM meeting:
Starting in September of 2008, all levels with the exception of Cadette is going to 2 years each. This is going to create an even more prevalent problem of girls losing their leaders when the leader moves up with their daughter every two years. Because not all leaders are willing to lead multiple levels at once, one idea is to create leadership teams between troop leaders from different levels.
Example: Daisy leader Allison has a K daughter. Brownie leader Sara has a 2nd gr. daughter, Junior leader Jodie has a 4th gr. daughter. A girl named Sally is in 1st grade. This year Allison would be her leader. If Allison’s troop gets to do a few meetings with Sara’s troop and/or goes on some of the field trips together, then next year when Sally is in 2nd grade and needs a Brownie leader, it will be an easy transition for her into Sara’s troop. The same would hold true for a 3rd grader, Becky, who has Sara this year. If Sara’s troop visits Jodie’s troop and/or does some trips together so Becky gets to know Jodie, it would be an easy transition into Jodie’s troop for Juniors in 4th grade.
