Council Mini-Training

Goal Setting for our Service Unit for 07-08

·        Girl Membership Goals – Increase our membership by at least 2% over 06-07.  Hold events:  Daisy Day, Fall Girls Event, Summer Fun Day, Ice Cream Social.

·        Adult Membership Goals – Need to find Daisy, Brownie and Senior Leadership teams for 07-08.  Will start recruiting early in the Spring.  If we can’t find a Senior leader, ask if we can combine our girls with a Derry Senior troop.  These girls will all be going to school together at Pinkerton.

·        Girl Program Goals – Hold Spring Bridging event and Summer Fun Day

·        Adult Support Goals – Annually recognize at least 1 leader with “Outstanding Leader Award”.  Hold trainings in Chester like EOL I, Daisy Doings, EOL II Br & Jr. to make training easier for Chester leaders.

·        Maintenance/Ongoing Goals – Use Summer Fun Day event as a fund raiser also.  We can also look for another location to hold town-wide cookie sale now that we can’t use the Home Show.

Brownie/Daisy Try-it activity:  I will need to know how many Juniors will be leading this activity to earn the Junior Aide badge.  We will divide the number of Juniors into 3 teams and they will each lead 2 stretches and 1 step in the Try-it.  The steps are Throwing/Catching, Kicking and Volleying.  Items we need: hula hoops (3 or 4), balls (kick balls, soccer balls, volley balls, etc.), 12 to 15 empty 2 liter soda bottles (to use as targets)  Please let Nancy know what you have available for us to borrow.

Junior/Cadette activity:  Sandy and I have discussed creating a rotating schedule of camp skills that the Cadettes will teach to the older Juniors.  Juniors who are bridging to Cadettes can count this activity as step #4 of “Bridge to Cadettes” – Participate in a camping or hiking trip with a cadette troop.

I will have a proposed schedule of swim times for next month’s meeting.  We also need to discuss a possible rainy day activity to do if we can’t swim.  We could also have each troop bring their own game or craft to do if it rains instead of trying to organize another group activity.

We decided to create a custom patch again this year.  We will choose the patch at the May meeting.

Fund Raising

We will be holding a Dance at the MPR on May 11th to earn the rest of the money we need to pay for Farnsworth, badge activity supplies, badges for camporee (GirlSports, Junior Aide and Camp Skills (for older Jrs and Cadettes).  We can use as many adults as possible as chaperones.  We will also need some men so we have boy’s bathroom coverage.  We also need baked good donations to sell at the snack table.

95th Birthday of Girl Scouts

This event was a success.  THANK YOU to Katie Gonya for making the 5 beautiful cakes for the event!

We should be able to cover the costs of this event with the Dance.

Town-Wide sleep over at Gym-Ken

Saturday, May 5, 2007.  Cost is $20 per girl.  Please make payment to Nancy no later than May 3rd.  As long as we have the minimum of 20 girls attend, no-shows can be refunded.

Each troop should bring their own evening snack.  We will have Dunkin Donuts in the morning.  Each troop will pay their portion of the breakfast.  Make sure you also bring drinks.

Daisy Day

Council is holding an event at the MPR on June 2nd from 1-3 PM for girls ages 4 to 6 called “Happy Trails”.  This is a recruiting event similar to our own fall girl’s event, but it is 100% organized and paid for by council.  They would like a few leaders and older girls to help out if possible.  I will have more info on how many we need once the registrations come in.

Court of Awards

Start having your girls think about their year end performance.  I’d like the leaders to say something brief about the year.  Tell us about their favorite trip, their best service project, something fun they did, whatever you think would be appropriate.  The date is June 12th at the MPR at 7 PM.

Early Re-registration

If you plan to return next year and know at least 5 members of your troop will also return next year, get a jump on the registration process by participating in the “Dance into 2008 Early Re-Registration Event”.  Your registration packets will be available from me starting on April 15th.  I will bring them to the May leader meeting, but if you’d like them early, let me know and we’ll make special arrangements.  Completed forms and payment are due to Corinna by May 25th.

All troops who participate in Early Re-Registration will receive a free patch and be invited to a free event in the fall.

Our next Meeting is May 3rd
