95th Birthday of Girl Scouts
On Monday, March 12th, 2007 Chester Girl Scouts will be joining together with girls from across our Council and the US to celebrate the 95th Birthday of Girl Scouting in the US. Our event will be held from 5:30 - 6:30 PM at Chester Academy in the Café. The Theme is “Make the World a Better Place”, so council is asking each Service Unit to collect canned goods that night for the food pantry. We will be participating in a program (supplied by council) which includes a candle ceremony and group recitation of the Girl Scout promise timed so that all groups will participate simultaneously. Cost is $2.00 per participant to cover the cost of candles, birthday cake, drinks and paper goods.
We decided to customize our own patches for this event. If you would like to purchase patches for your troop, the cost is $1.30 each. Please include it with your payment for the event.
Please complete and return the form with payment to Nancy no later than Feb 1st (Make checks payable to GSSWC Chester. I will need a few helpers that night for things like cutting the cake and pouring drinks, etc.
Camporee
We need rough head count and top 3 site choices by April leader meeting.
We need more adults trained in Basic Outdoor Living. We have 7 sites reserved and only 4 trained leaders. If you’re not able to do this, you can have a parent from your troop be the trained adult for you. Ideally, we should have 1 trained adult per troop.
BOLS CLASSES CURRENTLY SCHEDULED:
I asked Emily’s Mother-in-law who is a BOLS trainer if she’d consider doing a BOLS here in Chester. I’ll let you know if this is feasible.
Outdoor Cooking
Troop 779 would like to set up an outdoor Campfire to teach cooking skills this spring if anyone is interested. The Cadettes are working on a cooking badge and would like to get some experience. Let Sandy know if you would like to participate. She will teach you some fun ways to cook outdoors like box oven cooking, dutch over cooking, etc. This would be for adults and older girls.
Town Funds
Jane came up with a great idea for a fund raiser to replace the Home Show. We are trying to get together a plan to hold a babysitting night at CA on the night of the PTA Adult Dance. We would limit the number of kids to 40 – 50 and charge $20 per person. Jane is working on getting permission from the school. If we are able to do this, then the troops will no longer need to give the town funds the $70 we had decided on last month. If it works well, we can make it an annual event. We will serve pizza, have a movie and possibly some small crafts.
Gym-Ken
No updates on Gym-Ken yet. Stephanie is working on this.
Ice Skating
Jodie has not heard back from the rink to confirm the date of 2/28 yet. She will email everyone with confirmed plans. Last year was chaos at the door with people paying on the way in. If possible, we should have money to Jodie in advance. We need a rough head count because there is a minimum of 50 people. People who will be paying at the door need to arrive at least 15 minutes early so Jodie can begin skating with everyone else.
Training Update
Council is trying to get all leaders training records up to date in their computer. They have no records of trainings for 3 of our leaders, Anya, Tina and Katie P. Some leaders have missing information. Jodie is missing some dates and Orientation, Amber is missing Orientation, EOL I and EOL II Br records, Emily is missing Orientation. If you could check your training cards and send me the date, location (if known) and trainer from your training cards, I can get everyone’s records updated.
